We all know that going to a dentist is not the most looked forward to encounter. While some of us are just nervous, some might be really scared!.
So I thought I might just give away some easy tips to make you feel comfortable just like we do it for everyone at DENTAL LOUNGE.
Numero Uno!: Finding the right dentist.
Always choose a dentist you can COMMUNICATE well with, one who listens to your needs and understands your anxiety.
Being able to speak to your dentist openly is very crucial. Make sure you express your concerns to your dentist and let them know what makes you nervous during the dental visits.
Second up: - plug in your Earphones/headphones. There is nothing more soothing than listening to music and is a great idea if the sounds of dental practice give you the chills.
Load up your playlist with your favorite tunes and escape into the musical world while the dentist finishes the job.
Thirdly: - Bring along a buddy that can support you. We understand that being at a Dental Office can be overwhelming and that having someone familiar in the room with you can help you feel at ease.
Number 4:- Talk to your dentist about your treatment procedure in detail. Know what are the steps involved. This will help you prepare for the procedure and alleviate the fear of unknown. You could also ask your dentist to give you a commentary during the treatment. That way you’ll know what they are doing and why they are doing it.
Tip no 5:- For some of us, knowing everything that is going on leads to more stress. If you fall in this category, then choose o shift your attention to something else. May be focus on breathing. Deep inhalation and exhalations not only distract you but also have a calming effect on you.
Our sixth tip:- if your anxiety is severe, Sedation dentistry (also known as sleep dentistry) may be an option for you. You’ll need to consult your dentist about the right type of sedation for you. Your dentist may even be able to perform more treatment whilst you are sedated.
Last and the MOST IMPORTANT:- PREVENTION! The best way to overcome your anxiety is to prevent the need for dental treatment in the first place. Regular dental visits will actually reduce your dental anxiety in the long term as you continue to develop trust with your dentist and you prevent the need for more complex treatment. Making sure you are maintaining a good oral health routine and taking care of your teeth may also reduce your time spent at the dentist…
Everyone is different and we all handle anxiety differently. These are just some of the more common ways to help you feel comfortable at the dentist. If these strategies don’t work for you, consult us at Dental Lounge to know about alternatives for your unique needs.
